Topography
/Degree of Difficulty:
We recommend starting your trip at Schlitz or Lauterbach. The difference in altitude on the way up to Herbstein is not too difficult to master with a little stamina. The higher areas below the Oberwald undulate gently so do not require any effort. A little pedal power is required on the way to Hartmannshain. The long descent from the higher regions into the Wetterau is a totally relaxing, enjoyable experience
Sightseeing attractions:
- The castle town of Schlitz: Hinterburg Tower (viewing tower), Castle Museum, Hallenburg Castle, timber-framed town
Lauterbach: Eisenbach Castle, Hohhaus Museum (local museum), sock fountain, stepping stones across the Lauter, “Die Welle” leisure baths
Herbstein: “Vulkantherme” thermal spa, walk along the city walls
Grebenhain: “Teufelsmühle”, hiking trails through the Schwarzbach Valley
Gedern: lake, castle, Museum of Cultural History
Hirzenhain: Art Casting Museum, Church of the old Augustinian Abbey
Ortenberg: Lissberg musical instrument museum, “Fresche Keller” Arts Theatre
