Local train services operate from Giessen and Fulda stations to Lauterbach Nord-Bahnhof. The Volcano Cycle Trail is signposted from the station. Daily services operate from Stockheim station to Giessen, Gelnhausen and Frankfurt. Vulkan-Express buses with cycle carriers operate on the route between Stockheim and Lauterbach or Schlitz from May to October, at weekends and on public holidays.

The Vulkan-Express, a leisure bus with cycle carriers, operates on weekends and public holidays, from May to October. The routes operate in a star shape to the Vogelsberg, transporting cyclists and hikers to the most beautiful starting points for a cycle ride. A new service from Lauterbach to Glauburg, which runs parallel to the Volcano Cycle Trail, every two hours, has recently been launched. Some services continue on to Schlitz. There’s also a new service from Wächtersbach railway station, where connections to and from Frankfurt main station are available, to Hartmannshain, the highest point on the Volcano Cycle Trail.
